Medical Weight Loss
Bariatric surgery is proven as a long-term solution for weight management. However, not everyone qualifies for bariatric surgery, has insurance coverage, is willing or able to be private pay, or is willing to have weight loss surgery. And, at times, some surgical weight loss patients may require medication assistance to help them reach their weight and health goals.
What to Expect
A personalized approach…
The first step is an initial comprehensive consultation where you meet with our physician or physician assistant. They will review your medication and diet history, establish realistic weight goals, and discuss diet and lifestyle changes.
Patients will need labs done or a review of recent labs. Patients may also need an EKG or a specialty referral before starting the prescribed weight loss medication.
Types of Weight Loss Medications
There are different types of weight loss medications available. Some weight loss medications can help with cravings, curb appetite, or reduce how fat is absorbed. Depending on your medical history, you may be prescribed a weight loss medication that best suits your needs.
If eligible, patients receive a prescription for the weight loss medications. Insurance coverage varies by plan and medical history. If your insurance plan does not cover weight loss medications or is too expensive, coupons and compounding options are available.
After your initial consultation, you will need periodic meetings to evaluate progress, provide help, adjust your weight loss plan, and re-prescribe medications. Nutrition classes and ongoing support are available.
