Bariatric surgery is reserved for people suffering from morbid obesity, this is defined depending on your height and weight. For most people this is about 80 to 100 lbs above their ideal weight. We also look at contributing factors like obesity related diseases including diabetes and hypertension.
Dumping syndrome occurs when after eating food that may have high sugar content the body responds with your heart racing, flushing, feeling warmth and lightheaded. This occurs more frequently after gastric bypass and very rarely with a sleeve gastrectomy. Most of the time this is transient and can be avoided with dietary modifications.
With this technique the recovery is much faster as there is less tissue trauma and pain. The superior optics during surgery also allow for more precision and less complications.

Ideally patients can go back to work within a week or two as long as it doesn’t involve heavy lifting. Most people decide to take some time off during the process.
It all depends on the policy. As long as you don’t have a bariatric exclusion the procedures may be covered. It is always wise to contact them and verify along with our insurance specialists.
We expect you to start walking the same day of surgery!! After that the only restriction is heavy lifting, most patients return to light workout within a week to 10 days.
Not all patients will, it depends on the elasticity of the skin and how it responds to the weight loss. Starting weight and goal weight loss also influence that.
It depends on multiple factors but most people will have some mild degree of excess skin, certainly resistance work out may help diminish this in the long term.
